The First Hole is a good introduction as to what is to follow. Going left from the Tee should be avoided as there is a burn running the length of the 1st fairway. A well positioned drive sholud leave a medium iron uphill to a slightly raised green that is usually quick from back to front with some subtle breaks.
The longest hole on the course and also stroke index 1. A well struck tee-shot is required here as anything pushed right will find deep rough. The second shot has to be played over a gully with a stream running through the bottom. The green itself is the largest on the course, approx 80ft long and can therefore alter club selection depending on pin position.
Hole 4 - Par 3 - 174 yds - The Dyke
A long Par 3, slightly uphill to a plataued green. A small target to hit from the tee. A par is a good result here.
Hole 5 - Par 3 - 201 yds - The Fanks
Often the beginning of the end for many a scorecard. A 208yd downhill par 3. There is thick rough to the left, right and also short of the green. If you are fortunate enough to find the green, your work is not finished yet as there are many slopes that offer unusaul breaks on this green.
Hole 6 - Par 4 - 330 yds - The Echo
At 325 yds, on paper this is a straight-forward Par 4. However the deep rough to either side of the fairway makes an accurate tee-shot here imperative. The second shot, although not very long is also challenging as the green is two tiered and landing on the wrong side can make getting down in 2 very tricky.
Hole 7 - Par 4 - 283 yds - Blairmore
With 2 burns to cross, this hole can often be labelled,"The thinking man's par 4". The safe way to play the hole is a medium iron off the tee followed by something similar into another sloping green. However a brave tee-shot of some, 250yds carry can open the door to a relatively straight-forward up and down for birdie.
Hole 8 - Par 4 - 256yds - The Beeches
A real birdie opportunity, this par 4 is well within reach from the tee. The only thing that really gaurds this hole is a subtly sloping green that throws up some unexpected breaks when putting.
Hole 9 - Par 4 - 349 yds - Mullaig Mhor
An extremely picturesque tee-shot. Playing downhill towards the Holy Isle and the Ayrshire coast. In dry conditions a tee-shot slightly right of centre will catch the hill and run towards the green.
